Welcome to the MBS
The Molecular Biological Society, initially founded by Vienna university students in 2005, provides a network for young life scientists at the beginning of their career. Our members interact closely in order to broaden and extend their scientific and professional knowledge - and to establish mutually beneficial relations lasting a lifetime. On a regular basis, we invite experienced scientists either from academia or the biotech industry for talks about their work.
OUR PRINCIPLES
The Molecular Biological Society, initially formed by Vienna university students in 2005, is a social network for young life scientists focusing on both scholarly exchange and social interaction between our members, as efficient research is highly dependent on teamwork and collaboration between laboratories. We support our members in getting in touch with junior and senior scientists inside and outside of their field.
WHAT THE MBS OFFERS
Being a member of the MBS offers you a distinct set of advantageous opportunities. Among our frequent events you will find guest lectures in casual setting, with ample opportunity for face-to-face contact and discussion – our guests being senior scientists working either in academia or the biotech industry. Activities to cultivate friendship between members also form an integral part of our society – travels, outdoor activities and more. Both friendship and professional support between members is important, therefore we are very concerned with balance between those two. During your scientific career you will be able to rely on resources and expertise of your mates at any time.
BECOMING A MEMBER
All students and professionals in life science are welcome to join the MBS, independent of origin, religious views and political beliefs – as long as they believe in the freedom of research. Political and religious efforts within the MBS, however, are not endorsed. We are looking for young life scientists of sound character – ambitious, committed and sociable. Becoming a full member is possible after a one-year probation period, in order to become acquainted with your mates and the structure of the society. During this time some responsibilities must be taken – help with the arrangement of events, that is.
